Although it might seem obvious to avoid cruelty for ethical reasons. But do you really know the dark secrets behind animal cruelty? These are the top, less obvious reasons to get rid of your cruelty-inducing cosmetics in favor of animal-friendly alternatives.
1. These Cosmetics that are cruelty-free are less toxic
This is true almost everywhere. These brands are more likely to have proven safety records than cruelty-free brands, so you’re less likely that you’ll use a product that causes harm or has negative side effects.
Many cruelty free natural cosmetics companies also offer eco-friendly products without harmful chemicals. This means the ingredients you put on your skin and absorb into your skin are all natural and don’t contain any chemicals you don’t recognize or don’t know where they came from.
2. Brushes that are cruelty-free are cleaner
Are there any brushes you use that are made of animal hair? Due to the hair’s structure, they can harbour a lot bacteria. These hairs trap oil, dead skin and encourage bacteria to grow. They can also be difficult to clean. Also, they are more difficult to thoroughly clean.
The synthetic hair makeup brushes are much more hygiene-friendly. It’s also easier for them to be cleaned properly. You should make sure your brushes don’t irritate skin conditions such as acne or oily skin.
3. You Can Support Indie Brands or Local Businesses
It’s quite cool to be in a position to support local businesses as well as independent brands. There are so many quality cosmetics businesses that are hand-made and hand-crafted. Give these small-scale brands a chance. You might be surprised at their natural ingredients, skin benefits, personal touch, and how much they cost.
4. Animal Testing Isn’t Even Necessary
Surprisingly though, many companies who test on animals in Australia, Europe, and the U.S. do so because it is their choice. It’s not because they must. The vast majority of countries do not require animal testing for cosmetics.
Then, why do these companies test on animals? Because they must prove their products meet safety standards. These companies have many options for animal testing, including artificial tissue or in-vitro experiments (conducted on cells). This means that cruelty-free companies don’t test on animals out of necessity but because they choose to. That is why I support it.
5. The tests can be painful and even cause pain in bunnies, dogs and cats.
Think again if you believe lab rats are only the animals being tested. Many animals are used in animal testing, including mice, guinea pigs, bunnies and dogs as well as cats and dogs. Some of these animals are also used for cosmetics testing.
You are wrong if you think these tests are painless. Animal tests can cause distress and pain to the animals. There’s no such thing called painless animal test. You can think of an irritation test that involves spraying irritant chemicals into the eyes of a bunny. Sometimes, this results in blindness. Yes, it hurts!
The Bottom Line
Animal testing is both unnecessary and painful. Supporting brands that do not test on animals will help you to support the ones that make a difference. It’s better than testing on animals. There are no reasons to change.
