What to consider when replacing your boiler

There are many aspects to consider when replacing a Boiler. We’ll show you how to find the right boiler for your home.
Size of Property

The size of your home is a key factor in choosing the right boiler. Both system boilers and traditional boilers use a boiler cylinder. Conventional boilers also require a tank. This makes them better suited for larger homes. The combi boiler can be connected directly to mains and does not require either tank or cylinder. It is great for smaller properties. A combi boiler is a great choice for smaller properties. Boilers that are too large are not suitable for small homes. However, smaller boilers might be more appropriate for larger homes.

There is a temptation to replace an old system or conventional boiler with one that’s a combi. However, it might be wiser to stick with the current boiler system (“like -for-like switch”). You could save space by installing a combi boiler in your home, but it’s important to keep in mind that old boiler systems such as water tanks and cylinders will need to be removed. They can increase the cost of installation. If your property has older radiators, switching to a combination boiler is not an option. The radiators may not be able handle the higher pressure. If you do not consider such factors, you could end up spending more than if your current boiler was still in use.

Number of Showers and Bathrooms

It is more common to have system boilers than traditional boilers for homes with multiple bathrooms. These boilers let you run hot water in multiple bathrooms simultaneously. Combi boilers, on the other hand, can only heat cold water upon demand. Because the boiler’s capacity is limited by the size of its hot water tank, traditional boilers may be the best choice for large families. A shower type can also play a part. A combi boiler replacement Bromley may be incompatible for example with a powerful shower.

Water Pressure in the Region

Your local water pressure is an important consideration when replacing your boiler. Not all boilers can produce enough pressure. A conventional boiler (also called a regular boiler or traditional boiler) is best for properties located in low water pressure areas. Because it can guarantee high pressure water through the use a tank (typically in a loft), it can be ideal. A combi boiler is not the best choice for those properties.

Brand

When you replace your boiler, be sure to look at the boiler brand. Different boiler brands have different energy efficiency levels, which can have a significant impact on your gas or water bills. Gas boilers’ energy efficiency is measured using a scale from A through G. Boilers that convert at least 90% of their fuel into heat are A-rated. If your boiler has been in use for more than 15 year, it is likely that you have a gas boiler with a rating of G. These boilers will waste 30p of every PS1 in gas. This could end up costing you more that PS350 a month in unneeded energy bills. Remember that the brand of boiler you choose will affect the cost. Find out how much you can afford to buy a new boiler. A reliable boiler installation company should be capable of offering affordable payment options to allow you to spread the cost over a long period.

Type of Property

Important consideration is the type of property. An older property may be more economically to keep its current boiler type, as it will cost less to replace the existing boiler system. Consider whether you intend to add on to your property in the near future. There are more radiators which means more strain on your existing boiler. Keep this in mind when you are choosing the kilowattage to your next boiler. If space is scarce, a conventional boiler or system may not be the best fit for your home.

Boiler Flow Ratio

Your boiler flow rates are the water flow rates. This is how much water you can get out of your taps or faucets. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you should get the most efficient boiler. It all depends upon your mains pressure. If the mains supply to your house can only hold 10 litres of water per min, then a replacement boiler must have a flow of 13 litres per minutes.

Boiler Flue Systems

There are many options for flue configurations. These will determine the best boiler type for your home. A horizontal concentric flue design may not be the right choice for you. Before you start searching for a replacement boiler, it is important to look at your boiler flue design.

Gas Safe Installation

Installing a new boiler is a difficult task. Installing a boiler should only be done by a qualified gas safe engineer. Check to verify that your engineer is on gas safe register. Registered engineers must bring one. You can also check whether the registration number is valid online. Check that your engineer is licensed. You could face serious consequences if your boiler is not replaced by a qualified engineer.
